One of the second-grade ELA technology standards involves using an online dictionary and thesaurus to support vocabulary development. This standard helps students expand their word choices and understand nuances in meaning, ultimately improving their writing and reading comprehension. I feel prepared to implement this in class, as I am comfortable with digital tools and can guide students through interactive vocabulary activities. However, I was surprised by some of the other standards, such as an online scavenger hunt, which seems quite advanced for this age group. While I can confidently incorporate basic technology into lessons, I need to develop my skills further to effectively teach more complex digital literacy concepts.


The CPALMS Educator Toolkit offers various resources to enhance lesson planning, including a virtual tour of the Statue of Liberty for second-grade math. This interactive tool allows students to engage in budgeting activities while also learning about an important historical landmark, making it a cross-curricular resource. By incorporating this into a lesson, students can apply math skills in a real-world context while also gaining insights into history and social studies. I believe this resource would be both engaging and challenging, encouraging students to think critically while reinforcing multiple academic concepts. It would also provide an opportunity to discuss the importance of planning and financial decision-making in a way that is accessible to young learners.


Being a proficient Internet searcher is crucial for teachers, as it allows them to quickly locate high-quality resources, lesson plans, and educational tools. One of the most useful skills I have learned is Google’s advanced search, which helps refine searches for more precise results. As an art major, I also frequently use image search filters, sorting by color and transparency to find visuals that suit my needs. Additionally, I rely on open-source libraries to find copyright-free materials, which is an essential skill for ensuring that students and teachers use legal and ethical content.

Overall, I have found AI to be a useful tool for searching information, but I approach it differently than I do with Google. When using Google, I typically search for straightforward answers or a selection of possibilities. With AI, I provide more context or a detailed prompt, and in return, it generates tailored responses or multiple solutions. As someone who generally dislikes technology, I hesitate to call AI beneficial, but I can acknowledge its usefulness when applied properly.   For example, I recently asked ChatGPT for recommendations on places to move after graduation by giving it a list of specific requirements.
